Multiplication Using Place Value

WALT: Use place value to work out multiplication problems

Description
Purpose:  Our focus is to use different multiplication strategies to figure out three digit multiplication questions faster.

Process:  At the moment we are focusing on the place value strategy.  To start with, our maths group worked together to learn the strategy.  Then we had a go by ourselves trying to use the strategy for each problem.  We shared our answers back with the group to discuss what the answers were.

Learning:  I learnt that at the start when you take of the zeros at the end you have to add it back on

Method:
1) Split 365 in 300, 60 and 5
2) Multiply 300 by 6, multiply 60 by 6 and multiply 5 by 6
3) Add those three numbers together.
4) There you have your answer.

Evaluation: I reckon I did really well at learning the strategy. This will help me with my big multiplication problems by using place value. I reckon I could of done a show me so people understand.

  1. I love how you have used brackets in your problem Jaiden! Well done! That really shows a depth of understanding about what you need to work out first. Great job! Remember to get a buddy to give you some feedback too.
